Success Stories of Patients Who Overcame Paralysis

28/10/2024by Engin Çakar

The recovery process of the patients who have paralysis varies according to the cause of the paralysis, its severity, the person’s general health condition and many other factors. The recovery of a patient who have paralysis may take weeks, months or years. A paralyzed patient may fully recover, partially recover or remain in need of care. Therefore, it is not possible to talk about the same recovery process for all of the paralyzed patients. However, many patients may go through similar processes.

Conditions that cause brain paralysis or spinal cord paralysis are:

  • Stroke which may happen because of  brain hemorrhage, brain vascular occlusion, brain embolism or bubble formation in the brain,
  • Brain injury which may happen because of  head traumas, oxygen deprivation of the brain, brain edema or poisoning,
  • Brain injury which is caused by a brain tumor,
  • Spinal cord paralysis which is seen because of spinal cord injury, spinal cord inflammation or various diseases of the spinal cord.

Paralyzed patients and their relatives may sometimes feel hopeless during the treatment process. To keep motivation high at such times, it can be helpful to listen to the stories of other patients who have been recovered. We have compiled the success stories of some of our patients who had paralysis and recovered as a result of comprehensive neurorehabilitation:

Brain Hemorrhage While Singing, Started Walking and Singing Again in 4 Months

Eser Küçük, who is 33 years old and living in the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, suddenly had a brain hemorrhage while singing. Eser Küçük started singing again after 4 months of treatment at our clinic.

Hüsnü Tako, who was Paralyzed by Brain Embolism, Worked Hard and Overcame Paralysis

Hüsnü Tako is a patient who developed a stroke on his left side due to brain embolism and brain vascular occlusion. When he first came to our clinic, there was a little movement in his arm and leg and he was walking with great difficulty. For 2 months, a comprehensive and intensive physical therapy program was applied, and an improvement was gained in his arm and leg movements. Hüsnü Tako has learned to walk again and is now able to continue his daily life independently.

The Success Story of Ms. Menekşe who was Paralyzed Due to Spinal Cord Inflammation

Ms. Menekşe, who was 46 years old, was admitted to our clinic with paralysis of the legs due to Transverse Myelitis, that is, inflammation of the spinal cord. With a comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation program, she was first worked on in-bed exercises to increase her muscle strength. Then, thanks to devices such as robotic beds and walking robots, walking was relearned. Ms. Menekşe is now walking on her own and continues her daily life.

His Heart Stopped 3 Times, His Brain was Left Without Oxygen. He Came Back to Life!

Mr. Erhan had a heart attack due to high blood pressure and was hospitalized. After 3 cardiac arrests, Mr. Erhan was initially brought back to life. However, his brain was severely deprived of oxygen and a hypoxic brain injury developed. After staying 2 and a half months in intensive care, Mr. Erhan was unconscious and had no voluntary functions when he came to our clinic. As soon as Mr. Erhan arrived, his medical treatment was organized, and a rapid neurorehabilitation program was initiated. As a result of the treatments, Erhan Çakırgöz can now walk and even run!
